T-Rex: Slang changes all the time, and pretty rapidly too. No kid wants to use the same slang their parents use, because there's nothing less cool than your parents sounding like you and vice versa!
T-Rex: Except "cool" has somehow endured!
T-Rex: Things were cool in American Black dialects by the 1920s (and possibly as early as the 1880s!) - meaning "something desirable." But while we no longer go "on a toot" (drinking) or speak of flivvers (crappy cars), we still think things are cool! How has this 20s slang endured where others have failed??
Utahraptor: Uh, tons of 20s slang has survived from that era too?
T-Rex: Not like "cool"!
Utahraptor: Yes, like "cool"! I call you "pushover" and it means the same thing now as it did when it appeared in the 20s! If I tell you to scram, ya lousy goon, you know ta leave on the double, savvy? And no gumshoe's gonna pinch me if I pop ya, see? I ain't takin' the rap for no stiff! I'll --
T-Rex: Utahraptor!!
T-Rex: Oh no! You've fallen into the ever-present trap of talking like a cartoon gangster when discussing 1920s slang!!
Off panel: Aw, you're screwy! A wise guy, that's all! Some kinda sap tryin' ta put the screws on me!
T-Rex: Alas! He is too far gone.
