T-Rex: Forget scifi, alternate histories are my favourite genre now! Want to imagine what life would be like if the industrial revolution happened earlier and somewhere else? You don't have to!
T-Rex: Someone else already did, and they wrote it down for you!!
T-Rex: Yes, it truly is the best genre for stories, ESPECIALLY since when you know enough about history, you can have a sensible chuckle and say "aha, I know that PERSON or EVENT or SOCIAL MOVEMENT or OTHER being referenced here! Now I feel smart, and good!!"
Utahraptor: Yeah, but if you DON'T know that then you just feel stupid, and bad!
T-Rex: Not necessarily!
T-Rex: You can IMAGINE you're reading the book in your OWN alternate history where you do know those things, and thus IMAGINE what it would be like to feel smart, and good. Alternate histories! It truly is the greatest genre!!
Narrator: BUT LATER, T-REX GETS BACK INTO SCIFI AGAIN!
T-Rex: I realized alt histories are just scifis of the past, which establishes scifi as the ur-genre from which all others descend!!
