these days when the phone rings, i can reasonably expect it to be a telemarketer looking for 'r. north' and when i say 'well, which r. north do you want?' they say 'um, the one who is in charge of your family's eavestroughing decision making?' and i say 'hell, man! that's ME!'

The haps: Last night my lady friend and I went to see King of Kong with John from Drawn and Allene "Happy Dog" Chomyn. Guys it is a really great movie! It is a documentary about two people competing for the world's high score in Donkey Kong, and it's very nicely done.

The movie starts up kind of encouraging you to laugh at the people (look at the nerds! They sure do play video games a lot!), but quickly settles into the competition, and soon you're taking sides and hoping your guy wins. It was a great theatre experience, and one of the few I've been to in years in which the audience was so into it that they were clapping during the film, cheering on their guy as we went. I rate it five out of a possible five Donkey Kongs.
