T-Rex: Once upon a time in the 50s a teen babysitter was alone in a room in a spooky house at night! She kept getting prank calls asking her to check on the children she was babysitting.
T-Rex: So spooky!
Narrator: A SPOOKY TALE
T-Rex: So babysitter lady called the cops! And the cops were all "We traced the calls and THEY'RE COMING FROM INSIDE THE HOUSE!" and the babysitter was like, "No, there must be some mistake, for this story takes place in the 1950s and there's only one landline in this house, and therefore an intra-house call is impossible. The technology simply doesn't support it."
T-Rex: THE END.
Utahraptor: The cop said "hold on a second" and got a phone engineer on the line!
T-Rex: What? No!
Utahraptor: And the phone guy was like, "hey, on some exchange equipment it's possible to trigger a ring on your own line - which could be mistaken for a call!"
T-Rex: Nooooo
Utahraptor: "...although it wouldn't be routed through the phone system; the call tracing part of the story is still problematic."
T-Rex: Yesssss
