permalink to this result commentsAnonymous: The French regret it so much they have a name for it: L'esprit d'escalier. It means "staircase wit," as in, you thought of the perfect thing to say, but only after you left the party and headed downstairs to the street.
There was a nightclub in the town I grew up in called l'Escalier: l'esprit d'escalier for us was, well, let's just say it did not smell good.
