matt: if the hypothetical "necessary and sufficient conditions" were something outside of the music itself, then i would see a distinction, but i can't tell exactly what it's referring to.

matt: muzak kind of pisses me off. i try to avoid hearing pop music, because i have millions of inane tunes stuck in my head that i'm never going to forget, and i want to avoid hearing any more. but whenever i go to the gas station there's music coming out of
