Really, the only good thing about them: is the fact that they eat many other insects that invade homes.
When I was a little kid, I found a huge one (my memory says it was about 30 feet long) hiding between the seat and the bowl of the toilet: and to this very day, I lift the seat to check before sitting down.
I shake towels before use in case of poisonous insects: because my dad always did it out of habit. I've never actually lived somewhere that you need to do that.
