Immediately after World War II, Mao and the USSR were still buddies. : I would imagine China would have made a claim for the islands of Japan (because ostensibly for repayment of war debts, but really because the Chinese basically think they own the whole world) and the entirety of Japan would have been killed or dispersed. You can imagine what you like: Stalin would not have handed the territory over to Mao. See, that's just the thing about these stupid alternative history speculations: There's really no point in arguing one way or the other, because you've already starting talking about what never happened.
