| that given the overall numbers of births, even disincluding hatchings, worldwide in your own lifetime, the chances of having been born to the most intelligent species are slim to none | REGRET INDEX: 0.5a regret index of 1 is ultimate regret this result collects the hard-earned experience of 2 lifetimes of regret permalink to this result commentsThis is an incredibly bizarre statement.: It precludes a system in which souls, or personal identities, are just randomly divvied out among all births, and I don't believe that is consistent with any belief system out there, be it scientific or religious. Suppose, for example, you were born in a city that was 25% Asian.: Would you feel comfortable saying that "the probably of you being Asian was 25%"? What are you talking about: how many rats, right, rats, rattus rattus, rattus norvegicus, do you think have been born in your lifetime? Because it's a lot, and they are demonstrably intelligent. Are they the most intelligent? Not by the standards we set to define ourselves. The question of being born to the most intelligent species hinges on the definition of most intelligent. We may have large, powerful, well-studied intellects, but that doesn't make us the most intelligent any more than having a high IQ makes you smarter: than the average bear. It's about what you do with the intelligence. If we wipe ourselves out somehow and rats don't get any smarter but do maintain their role as one of the planet's dominant species, which is the most intelligent species? And that's where the argument falls down, see? There have probably been as many rats born in your lifetime as humans that ever lived. The definition of intelligence isn't: christ you know what if I don't get something to eat I'm just going to be cranky for hours. Are you high?: Seriously. I'm not trying to insult you, but what you're saying sounds like some of those "deep insights" that people have when they get stoned off their ass. No: are you? Because you seem to be relying heavily on the "I am a beautiful unique snowflake" argument here. The chances of you being you are 1:1, the chances of being born to the most intelligent species (which was the original problem) are slim to none. Also: I never once used the word "probability". You are truly an idiot.: I have no idea why you are so worked up, but take a few hours away from your computer, eat something, and then come back and think about the nonsense you're saying. Good day. Go fuck yourself.: Seriously. Calm down. Take a deep breath.: Figure out ways to deal with your rage other than insulting strangers on the internet.
